Llangar has a very special church but no parishioners but is still well worth a visit. The population centre is now at Cynwyd. This lonely church gazes out over the confluence of the rivers Dee and Alwen. There were fords over the rivers and a drive so that worshippers from the other side of the valley could attend services. The rivers very often flooded and the river courses changed so that the fords were not always usable. The church contains medieval wall paintings and can be visited by arrangement with the custodian at Rug Chapel, Corwen. The East window is clear and so you can see inside the church.

Rug Chapel
Rug Chapel (1637) is worth a visit. You will be so surprised when you see the interior after wondering why you’ve taken so much trouble to visit a chapel with such an ordinary exterior. Phone: 01490 412025 for opening time information.
